Attending a geek convention can be an exciting and fun experience, but in order to make the most of your experience and treat others with respect, it's important to keep a few caveats in mind
Doable
Do your research before attending the meeting. Take a look at the schedule and plan the activities you want to see and attend. Also, it's a good idea to familiarize yourself with the layout of the conference center so you know where everything is.
Remember to pack easy snacks. Meetings last all day, and the last thing you want is to go hungry, leave your booth unattended, or pay for expensive conference food. Bringing simple snacks that are easy to eat will save your day and ensure you have enough energy to get through your day without having to worry about how and where to get your food.
Get your booth ready. If you're an artist exhibitor or like to buy cute merchandise from an artist's booth, you'll know that the overall look can have a big impact on your sales. A booth that looks sad is less likely to attract people than a booth that is well decorated or set up.
Booth Tip: Customize your own tablecloth! You can make your table beautiful by customizing your own tablecloth. When attending conferences, tablecloths are cheap and a good investment because they can be reused and last a long time.
You can go looking for manufacturers of high quality, wrinkle-resistant tablecloths, and conventions for almost all table sizes.
Dress up as a cosplay. Many conferences encourage attendees to dress up as characters from their favorite comics, TV shows, or movies. It's a great way to show off your creativity and meet other fans to share your interests.
Bring business cards. Bring business cards and hand them out to people you meet. It's a great way to connect and make connections with others. For those selling from a stall, it's a good idea to have a business card on the table. Some attendees who can't decide whether or not to buy often look for business cards so they know where to buy your product after they decide. Some of your products may also be out of stock. Let them know if you plan to restock and hand out your business card so they know where to buy when they restock.
Respect the personal space of other participants and be mindful of the Conference's code of conduct.
Have fun! Remember to step back and enjoy the experience, taking lots of photos and interacting with other fans and attendees.
Undoable
Do not carry weapons or props that could be considered dangerous. Many conventions have strict rules about props and weapons, and if you bring something that is not allowed, you may be asked to leave.
Do not touch or take photos of cosplayers without permission. Role-playing does not imply consent, and it is important to respect the personal boundaries of other participants.
Do not be rude or offensive to other attendees or staff. Geek Con aims to be a fun and inclusive space for everyone, so it's important to be respectful and considerate of others.
Don't litter or leave litter, always look for suitable bins, and be mindful of the space you take up in meetings.
Don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it. Many conferences have staff and volunteers who can help you with questions or guidance.
Attending a Geek convention is an exciting experience for many fans, as there are a variety of events and opportunities to immerse yourself in their favorite fandom, meet new people, see exclusive merchandise and see new content coming soon. Everyone who attends wants to have a good time, so be careful and don't forget these do's and don 'ts.
